Consumer Report charges a fee to give out information on items' reviews. Is it worth it to subscribe?

I always thought that you could go to consumer report and check on any items, any categories for reviews and feedback.

But, now they charge a subscription fee in order to give you information on anything. Is it worth it? or is there another reliable consumer report site that is free and does give you the correct reviews?

NO SPAM PLEASE!|||As far as I know, the Consumer Reports site has always been that way - some info available free, but you have to pay if you want to get it all. I don't know of another site like theirs, but here are some other ideas for getting product ratings:

- Go to Amazon.com and look up the items you are thinking of, and see people's ratings and reviews for them.

- Try epinions.com or consumersearch.com, both also have lots of online reviews.

- If you are thinking of a specific category, like TVs, cars, or appliances, you could just wait until you see a copy of Consumer Reports magazine on the newsstand with the info you want, and just buy that.|||CR is available free at the library. It is a monthly magazine. Some libraries subscribe to the online edition and make it available to you. Try there|||Library
